Your Copyright
You already have a defacto copyright for your book, thanks to the intellectual property laws.
Once your book is in a tangible form of expression, your book is protected.
Poor Man's Copyright - there's a better way!
This is an old convention that is not a good copyright practice and offers no protection. It was when the author sends a copy of his/her own manuscript to themselves in the mail. It wouldn't be opened, and if there was ever a copyright challenge, the postmark was to serve as proof of copyright date.
A better way: Use the same postage and send it to your lawyer or your accountant.
If you want more "proof of copyright," send it to a non-bias third party, such as an account, a lawyer, a minister, a business onwer, someone who will save it and document the day they received it. This person can then testify in court on your behalf and produce proof that you had it in a tangible form of expression as of the date they received it.
