It isn't anyone else's job to make you rich!

Don't bring a baby into this world, unless you intend to raise it.

These are words spoken by authors to authors constantly. If you think that your publisher is the only one who will put any effort into the success of their book - you're wrong. You need to plan what to do to make your book a success! Many books have been written on this subject. Do your research and figure out what you can do.

This book is your baby, it is your message. No one else has the passion for it that you do. Your most immediate success is going to be in your direct circle of influence, and it will radiate out from there as long as the energy from the epicenter of that circle of influence stays active.

There are a lot of people who achieved "overnight success," but if you were to get their whole story, it would most likely involve a lot of work and plenty of perseverance.A publisher or a publicist will work on your team, but you still have to be a very active player.

It is your job, as the author, to always be your book's best sales-person.

Writer's Summit Tip #25:

Commercially publishing a book takes between 12-24 months AFTER you sign a contract with a publisher. If your subject is more timely than that, you need to seriously consider self-publishing or partner publishing your book.

Many non-fiction books are quite timely. Waiting for 2 years to get a book on the topic out on the market could significantly damage your chances for success. There are many ways to publish your work that gets your information to the market much more quickly.
